US President Donald Trump said that Apple should pay a 25% tariff on iPhones not made in the United States, in a post on his social media site, Truth Social.
Trump stated in the post that Apple would have to pay a tariff of 25% or more on iPhones made outside the United States.
Trump said, "I told Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, a long time ago that I expect iPhones sold in the United States to be made and built in America, not in India or anywhere else. If that doesn't happen, Apple will have to pay at least a 25% tariff to the United States."
It is worth noting that the iPhone is primarily produced in China, but it is currently shifting production partially to India, due to its more friendly trade relations with the United States.
Some Wall Street analysts have estimated that moving iPhone production to the United States would raise the price of Apple's smartphone by at least 25%.
