Kelsie Carlson, owner of The Picket Fence coffee shop in Deer Park, was recognized recently by the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) for her support and advocacy for the schools. In a statement released by the Deer Park School District (DPSD), Carlson was applauded for her commitment to supporting DPSD schools from elementary through high school, making a “significant impact” in various ways.

“Kelsie's involvement is nothing short of inspiring,” said the statement. “She volunteers tirelessly at elementary school events, attends evening functions, and generously donates both her time and proceeds directly back to the schools. This year alone, she sponsored an entire grade level at Deer Park High School, ensuring every student received Stags t-shirts to proudly represent their school spirit.”

It went on to state that Carlson goes the extra mile beyond financial support by organizing and facilitating community-wide send-offs for state-bound students – events that involve collaborations with businesses, police, and fire departments to create memorable escorts showcasing community support.

“On a weekly basis, Kelsie personally prepares and delivers coffee orders to each school, adding a personal touch that brightens the days of students and staff alike. Her dedication extends to advocating for the community through informative videos on bond and levy initiatives, ensuring that Deer Park remains a vibrant and well-supported educational hub.”

Dr. Alexa Allman, superintendent of DPSD, said, "We are incredibly grateful for Kelsie's unwavering support, advocacy, and voice in our community. Her commitment exemplifies the spirit of leadership and generosity that makes Deer Park such a special place."
