2017 Renault Koleos shows its face, spy shots reveal more

UPDATE 1: revealing new spy photos have now also surfaced in the Chinese press. This article has been updated to reflect the new information and images.

UPDATE 2: Renault has now confirmed the Koleos name will continue with this new-generation SUV.

So much for teasers: the all-new 2017 Renault Koleos has surfaced online today, just hours after the French car maker released a first-look preview video.

Where that clip revealed frustratingly little - as always - a leaked image, then a pair of spy photos and now a sharp new official image have all brought the new Australia-bound SUV into the light.

The picture above first appeared as a low-quality image in the European press overnight, possibly spurring Renault to bring forward the release of the glossy marketing shot you now see.

The new image, released just moments ago, was accompanied by confirmation at last that the new SUV will again be known as the Koleos, rather than 'Maxthon' as has been reported in the European press.

More, the below spy photos circulating in the Chinese press have also given us a 'real world' look at the new Koleos from both ends.

As expected, the new SUV’s styling builds on the look of its smaller Clio and Megane stablemates, along with the overseas Talisman, Espace, Kadjar and Scenic models, among others.

Standout commonalities in the styling of all of those models is a broad wing-like grille connecting the headlights - which showcase a hooked LED feature in more recent offerings - and a long wide body with subtly muscular haunches for each.

A long new tail-light design dominates the rear of this new Koleos, as it does with the Talisman and new Megane.

The new Koleos will be larger than the model it replaces, although it will likely remain in the ‘medium SUV’ segment - albeit at the top end in terms of size.

Australia

The new Koleos will make its global debut in Beijing this week, and Renault Australia has confirmed a "Spring" launch, pointing to a launch after September.

As we reported last year, the Koleos will again be built in South Korea, with five- and seven-seat variants expected to be offered.
